Visit KC announced today the launch of the KC BBQ Experience app, the ultimate resource for exploring Kansas City’s signature cuisine. The application, now available for download on iOS and Android devices, was developed alongside local digital production company Propaganda3.

Created by Visit KC, the free-to-download KC BBQ Experience app showcases Kansas City’s world-famous barbecue scene with a variety of different functions, including a comprehensive map of the 100-plus restaurants in the region. Users can also chronicle their barbecue journey by checking in to barbecue joints, earning badges by accomplishing meal- and location-based challenges, embarking on themed trails to explore the city and posting photos of their meals using exclusive filters, among other unique features.

For out-of-towners such as convention and meeting audiences, the app serves as an excellent introduction to one of Kansas City’s most iconic industries. Not only is it ideal for spending downtime between events and extending trips to visit more locations, but the app capitalizes on the growing trend of culinary travel, turning ordinary trips to KC into barbecue pilgrimages.

“The KC BBQ Experience app represents Kansas City staking its claim as the barbecue capital of the world,” said Visit KC Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications Traci Moon. “From more upscale restaurants to iconic, hole-in-the-wall joints, visitors and locals alike will be able to discover new barbecue spots and visit familiar favorites using this engaging, authentic program.”

A full digital resource accompanies the app’s rollout and communicates the cuisine’s history and impact on KC culture. The storytelling experience leverages video, photography and other exclusive content to complement the new program.
