A teenager from Tennessee who had her legs amputated after being struck by a car made a surprise appearance at Smyrna High School on May 10. In February, Janae Edmondson was walking back to her hotel from a volleyball tournament in St. Louis when the accident occurred.

Currently, she is in Smyrna, her hometown, undergoing rehabilitation. When the 17-year-old volleyball player made her first public appearance after spending several weeks in the hospital, the crowd erupted in cheers, bringing Janae to tears.

Despite her accident, Janae had previously received a volleyball scholarship from UT Southern, and the school will honor their commitment to the scholarship.
