The Mid-Illinois Medical District (MIMD), a $600+ million Capital investment, is a one-square mile designation just north of downtown and the Illinois State Capitol on 640 acres in Springfield. Established in 2003 by an act of the Illinois General Assembly, the MIMD is a vibrant environment that supports patient care, bio-medical research, new medical technologies and advanced medical-related activities.
Additionally, the District is anchored in the heart of central Illinois by four health care institutions including, Springfield Memorial Hospital, HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield Clinic and the internationally acclaimed Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. It includes more than 13,000 employees and 4.7 million square feet of health facilities.
