Welcome to The Falls at Crackerneck Creek, a commercial development at the intersection of Interstate Highways 40 and 470, on the southern edge of Independence, Mo. The newest Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center is among the latest additions to this sylvan setting that features an 18-acre stocked lake and natural streams, a 100-foot waterfall and two miles of walking trails.
The closest neighbor here – the 180,000 square-foot Bass Pro Outdoor World Adventure Store – fits quite nicely into the picture. Visitors and guests of the new Hotel and Conference Center can not only take full advantage of its convenient location but also enjoy its lush surroundings – communing with nature as they stroll alongside the abundant greenery and splashing water.
The décor is dominated by the woodsy, log-cabin aesthetic that distinguishes Stoney Creek Hotel from its competitors, but this latest addition to the Stoney Creek Hotel family of hotels also makes a subtle nod to a more urban, contemporary approach. Yes, you will still find barn wood accents, tree bark siding and plenty of antlers, but here they are used as a rustic reference in a post-modern setting, rather than attempting a true backwoods experience.
The benefit is that this newly completed facility, which opened March 1, 2015, has all the modern conveniences that guests are looking for these days – a 24-hour business center, complimentary Wi-Fi and hot breakfast, ample flat-screen TVs, microwaves and mini-fridges, a fitness room with treadmills, elliptical and weight machines, – all couched within the cozy rural touches that set the property apart.
There are 167 guest rooms in total, making Stoney Creek Hotel one of the largest hotels in the Independence area. Some of the expanded rooms include amenities such as bunk beds, whirlpool tubs, massage chairs, and sleeper sofas. Themed rooms – each with a two-person whirlpool tub – are an option, as well as extended-stay cottage rooms that include a furnished kitchen with cooktop, full-size refrigerator and eat-in area, plus a balcony or patio. Stoney Creek also has its own signature blend of coffee, which may be found in the hotel lobby and during conference events.
A meeting space to fit any event
The 30,000 square-foot Elements Hall Conference Center at Stoney Creek offers eight meeting rooms that range in size from 9,000 square feet down to 675 square feet. The Elements Hall Ballroom is the largest, and it can be divided into three 3,000 – sq.-ft. salons by movable air walls. The entire space seats 700 for dinner, 600 in a theater capacity, and 486 in a classroom configuration.
The nomenclature of the various meeting and event spaces draws inspiration from the natural world – thus the name Elements Hall. The Water Room accommodates more than 200 seated banquet-style or more than 130 in a classroom arrangement. The Metal and Wood rooms both seat just above 100, while the Fire Room seats 60 in a banquet setting and 36 as a classroom, and the Earth Room seats 40 at dinner and 18 in a classroom configuration.
The two smallest rooms, named Lily Pad and Toad Stool, are located adjacent to the pool area and are generally used for birthday parties and other pool-related events.
State-of-the-art A/V systems, including overhead LCD projectors and a high-quality sound system, are available throughout the conference center. Other communication tools available include a variety of microphone equipment, dry erase boards and flipcharts. The onsite event coordinator is available to assist with setup, A/V needs and catering from available custom menus or a la carte options.
All the elements in place
The 35th annual NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Division I Women’s Basketball Championship was held at the Independence Events Center – just across the highway from Stoney Creek Independence – between March 18 and 24, 2015. During the event, All-American honors were awarded to several players, and a Champion of Character was named from each school that participated. In addition, many of the players, coaches, and staff were guests at the hotel.
“We were very excited to host the NAIA Women’s Basketball Banquet of Champions to kick off the March tournament,” says Caressa VanNoort, sales manager at Stoney Creek. “It was one of the largest events we have held so far – over 700 people seated in the Elements Ball Room for dinner.”
The versatility of the hotel and its meeting and event facilities lends itself to a wide range of possible uses. Because of the broad range of potential meeting areas within the Elements Conference Center and the hotel as a whole, the multimedia capabilities in place, and the staff’s close attention to detail, the possibilities for the center’s use are nearly boundless.
The employees and staff of Crossroads Hospice held a retreat for more than 400 employees and office staff at the Elements Conference Center, an event that included a motivational speaker and several other activities. Leslie Tuttle, the executive administrative assistant at Crossroads Hospice, says the staff at Stoney Creek went “above and beyond” to make sure that the event went smoothly.
“They really worked hard, taking care of a lot of things behind the scenes,” says Tuttle. “I would call it a ‘glitch-free’ day. They even knew that our organization is known for its green color scheme, and made sure that the conference room was staged in advance with green accents.”
The employees and staff of Crossroads Hospice were so impressed with Stoney Creek in Independence that they have already pre-scheduled their annual Christmas party for employees and spouses at the facility for the upcoming holiday season.
The Independence location is the latest of 14 Stoney Creek properties in Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. With this kind of experience and expertise behind it, the new facility is staffed with talented hospitality and event-planning specialists who make the extra effort it takes to ensure that everything is right the first time. And with so many reasons to choose Stoney Creek Independence, including its park-like setting, its cozy cabin styling, and its contemporary amenities, the crucial decision of where to hold your next meeting or event just got a little easier.
