St. Louis’ America’s Center Convention Complex to Undergo $175 Million Renovation & Expansion

On October 3, 2018 officials from St. Louis City & County announced the AC Next Gen Project, a huge expansion and renovation of the America’s Center Convention Complex. Mayor Lyda Krewson of the City of St. Louis expressed her enthusiasm and hope that this new expansion will bring more convention center business to the St. Louis area when she said, “This investment has paid for the St. Louis region in the past and it will continue to do so in the future.”

According to estimates by Johnson Consulting, the renovations are expected to create nearly 36% growth in event bookings. The revenue for this expansion will come from the hotel and motel taxes collected by St. Louis City & County. New additions are expected to include 92,000 square feet of added exhibit space, a 65,0000 square foot ballroom, construction of 26 new loading docks, and an outdoor pavilion among other things.

News of this expansion project comes after reports that the America’s Center stark decline in business in the past few years has begun to negatively affect other downtown businesses.
