Doubletree Hotel Westport Welcomes Missouri Meetings & Events Staff and Readers for Tour, Food and Conversation
Missouri Meetings & Events is listening to you – and we’re making it fun to tell us your opinion.
On November 12, 2007, the staff of Missouri Meetings & Events met with meeting planners at the Doubletree Hotel Westport in St. Louis to hear how our magazine can better serve readers with professional tips, destination and facility features and networking opportunities.
“This is the first step in building even closer ties with our readers,” says Missouri Meetings & Events publisher Joseph Clote. “It can be easy to convince yourself you’re connecting when you build a magazine on this end, send it across the region, and have just a few opportunities to really interact face-to-face each year.”
The planners who attended were treated to a tour of the recently renovated Doubletree, a beautifully presented heavy appetizer buffet in the elegant banquet room, and a goodie bag compliments of Doubletree and MM&E.
“We can’t thank Doubletree Hotel and Lodging Hospitality Management enough for their gracious hosting of this event,” says Vikki Matthews, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Missouri Meetings & Events. “Their renovated facilities are exquisite and they certainly proved to the planners who attended that they can put on events of distinction.”
In exchange for the pampering, the planners talked about their professional experiences, how they got into the business of meetings and events and how they use the magazine. They also gave direct advice about the kinds of features and the format that work best for them.
So what did we learn? Here are few examples:
* Planning is hectic work. Your time is limited and essential information is what you seek. Many of you appreciate the practical advice found in the magazine.
* You want our features to not just scratch the surface, whether they are focused on facilities or topics at hand.
* You want to know the meetings and events community better – you pay attention to new names and faces and you like finding new opportunities to make connections.
And we heard you. From that first meeting, you will already find articles in this very issue that are direct suggestions from planners.
“This is just the beginning,” Clote says. “We want to invite more readers to more events like this, because we know that the only good editorial approach is the one that meets our readers’ needs.”
