One of Kansas City, Kansas’ most iconic landmarks, Sauer Castle, is entering a new era as it prepares to become a private event venue following recent approvals from the Wyandotte County Commission.
Built in 1871 and admired for its striking Italianate architecture and rich local history, the long-vacant castle has been given a second chance under new owner Mike Heitmann, an engineer and builder who acquired the property in 2023.
The newly approved zoning changes and special permits pave the way for Sauer Castle to host corporate events, charitable dinners, and weddings, breathing new life into the historic structure. The plan also includes a future museum, coffee shop, and gift shop, enhancing the venue’s appeal for private groups and heritage tourism alike.
With renovations already underway, Sauer Castle is poised to become one of the region’s most unique and sought-after heritage event destinations.
