The state of Kansas is developing many new properties, ranging from hotels to sports complexes and unique facilities, which are slated for completion in 2021 and beyond. Continue reading to learn about the latest venues where you and your company can coordinate your meetings and events upon their opening.
The Hard Rock Hotel | Edwardsville, KS |Opening 2021
In mid-November 2019, developer One10 Hotel HRKC LLC and Fogel-Anderson Construction commenced the building of the Hard Rock Hotel in Edwardsville, Kansas. With the future property site located at the southeast corner of Interstate 70 and 110th street, this property will overlook the Kansas Speedway and is part of the larger Village South development.
Slated to open in summer 2021, this hotel will be managed by Evolution Hospitality. This property will contain two restaurants, a lobby bar, a Hard Rock retail store, the VIP lounge on the rooftop, and a 50,000-square-foot event center.
BigShots Golf facility + 124-suite extended stay hotel| Wichita, KS |Opening 2021
O’Reilly Hospitality Management is delivering a BigShots Golf facility to the southeast corner of 29th North and Greenwich, setting this property across from the Stryker Sports Complex. In addition to the golf facility, O’Reilly is planning to develop a 124-suite extended stay hotel.
The Wichita BigShots Golf facility will contain 56 bays, virtual reality courses, and games. A competitor to the TopGolf franchise, BigShots currently has two facilities under construction in Springfield, MO and Fort Worth, TX. With construction for the Wichita property beginning this summer, this property will be opening in 2021.
Derby Sports Zone | Derby, KS |Opening 2021
A new indoor and outdoor sports center will be built in Derby’s STAR Bond District. The Derby Sports Zone venue will contain volleyball, sand soccer, yard games, and more activities, in addition to a restaurant.
This facility is projected to attract 142,000 annual visitors, and it could help bring visitors to other attractions around the Sports Zone. Though a new hotel near the sports facility is not an immediate objective, due to the rapid increase of hotels in Wichita, a hotel close to Derby Sports Zone will be revisited in future development plans.
Avid Hotel | Hays, KS | Opening 2021
A new Avid Hotel for Hays was approved by the Hays City Commission. With Saffron Hospitality, LLC developing the project, this $7.05 million property is projected to be complete by the end of December 2020. The new Avid Hotel site is to be located north of Interstate 70 and west of Old Chicago.
Branded by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), this four-story, 42,000-square-foot property is planned to contain 79 rooms. In addition to the Avid Hotel, Saffron Hospitality, LLC is proposing construction of another hotel in Hays after the Avid Hotel is completed.
American Royal Agricultural Complex | Kansas City, KS | Opening in 2021
Kansas City, KS is gaining a new agricultural complex near Village West. With American Royal beginning construction in 2020, this facility will contain 800,000 square feet of indoor event space, barn and expo areas, three performance arenas, and over 50,000 square feet of exhibit space.
Additionally, there will be 2,400 parking spaces and outdoor areas where planners can coordinate festivals and events. Progress for this development is projected to be significant by December 2021.
Bonner Crossing | Bonner Springs, KS | Opening Undecided
Kansas City developers have planned a $500 million mixed-use campus for the southwest corner of State Avenue and Speedway Boulevard in Bonner Springs. The Bonner Crossing development will be located near Village West and the Kansas Speedway, with an arts and entertainment theme.
This campus will include a variety of accommodations and venues within its 180 acres. This property will contain 1,000 new residential units, retail stores, three new hotels, a medical office, and an assisted and independent living center for seniors. Bonner Crossing will also house various arenas, including an indoor concert arena seating 7,000 people, an outdoor amphitheater seating an additional 7,000 people, and, most notably, a 53,000-square-foot eSports area to hold competitive video gaming events.
