On August 14, MPI Kansas City brought together 100+ meeting professionals at Fiorella’s Event Space in Overland Park for its much-anticipated annual conference. From leadership and personal safety to inclusive event design and strategic planning, the conference’s theme “In the News” explored the trends and topics making headlines in the meetings and events industry.

Sponsored by Bishop McCann, Visit KC, Jayhawk Hospitality, Stancy Events, MEET Missouri, and more, the conference was a jam-packed day of education, inspiration, and connection, concluding with happy hour networking. This event was not only wonderful due to the MPI KC chapter’s volunteers, but also the chapter’s leadership and Tracy Nice, Director of Annual Conference.

Sessions throughout the day included Productivity Insights with Amy Tokos, Efficiency and Productivity Coach; Emergency Response Planning with Ken Harris, Owner of APEX CEO Security; Events for Everyone with Meaghan Walls, Executive Director for the Center for Disability Inclusion; Unbridled Leadership with Zach Arend, Leadership Consultant and former Saddle Bronc Riding  Champion; and an Industry Update and Trends Report with Leslie Dickerson, Senior Vice President of Experience with Augeo.

A memorable highlight of the sessions was Gene Turner, a pickpocket entertainer.

At the end of the day, following the end of the sessions and closing remarks, attendees stayed for a spirited happy hour with a mobile bar by Trailergating, serving J.Rieger spirits.

The MPI Kansas City chapter’s next gatherings are the August 26 “Monthly Meetup” and the November Presidential Gala.
