According to several St. Louis media sources, the Gateway Arch National Park is attracting fewer visitors after the $380 million CityArchRiver redevelopment. KSDK reported, “In 2018, a little more than 2 million people visited, off from 2.5 million in 2012, the year before the project’s groundbreaking… according to National Park Service figures. Though construction had no impact during 2019, attendance barely budged, rising by just 39,000 from 2018.”
Mike Ward, Superintendent for the Gateway Arch National Park, stated to MM&E “Visitation to Gateway Arch National Park grew 2% from 2018 to 2019… {and} our partners at Gateway Arch Park Foundation just finished Winterfest, and this year’s event had an estimated crowd of about 40,000 people {that came} to downtown St. Louis {to} enjoy the event. This is about 10,000 more people than last year.”
