It’s fun getting older. This year Missouri Meetings & Events celebrates TEN years of helping meeting and event planners and industry suppliers connect with each other. The cover represents ten years of industry coverage of the top meeting facilities in the state.
We are lucky to have great marketing partners and devoted readers who continue to provide our editorial department solid direction on what topics we should be covering in upcoming issues. “Here and Now,” an article by Heather McNeill on page 26, is the second part of the trilogy. We’ve examined where we came from in the summer 2011 issue; now it’s time to talk with some of the leaders in our industry to determine why companies such as Coca-Cola, NCR, FedEx, and Primerica have changed the way they plan, book and produce meetings. More importantly, how can you adjust your own game plan to take advantage of this sea change?
We all need some good news right about now! According to the IEG Sponsorship Report,
North American companies spent $17.2 billion on sponsorships in 2010, a 3.9 percent
increase over the previous year. As Lisa Lance discovers in her article, “Getting the Most
Out of Sponsorships,” page 22, companies can use sponsorships to build visibility and
ultimately increase sales.
So what do Missouri Meetings & Events and the industry have planned for you in the next
10 years? Plan on reading part 3 of the trilogy in the winter 2011-2012 issue. I can give
you a few hints as to what you will see from MM&E. A new Web site will be online and ready
for your use by the time this issue hits your desk. Our first editorial advisory board is almost
complete and will be announced in the winter issue. You may also be one of the chosen
ones to receive a new award from MM&E that will recognize planners and suppliers for the
quality of their products and services.
Of course, I need to save the best for last. We are happy to announce some new additions
to the extended MM&E family. Our associate editor, Patti Curran, and her husband Glenn
welcomed their daughter Mairin into the world on July 30. And senior vice president of sales
Vikki Matthews became a proud grandmother, as her daughter Kourtney and husband Andy
welcomed Jolene on August 25. Congratulations! Start planning some parties!
