Branson Chamber of Commerce welcomes the “Loopers” to the Branson community

Branson is pleased to welcome a unique new company to the area. Branson Sightseeing Bus, Inc. has six, 40-foot open-air buses, known as All Season Tour Loopers. The Loopers will run on fixed routes around Branson to many of the cities’ shopping, golf, hotel, attraction and entertainment venues.

Each Looper seats 52 passengers.  They are open top with retaining rails on each side.  In colder weather the translucent roof will be installed.  The buses are operational April though December, seven days a week.  Staff will be dressed in English “period attire,” and the bus will sound an English hunting horn at each stop. While the agenda will be all Branson all the time the experience will be a unique adventure with fun had by all. Passengers have the ability to step on and off at over 40 different locations within walking distance to many of Branson’s attractions.

The buses are manufactured in the Ozarks by Specialty Bus Manufactures LLC, which has produced similar buses used in New Your City, New Jersey and Chicago. Passes for the “Loopers” can be purchased as you step on and off the buses or at many of Branson’s hotels, ticket sites or entertainment venues. For more information and pricing visit

St. Charles Convention Center Honored with Award for Service Excellence

After only 14 months of operation, the St. Charles Convention Center has received its first award for outstanding service. The St. Louis Chapter of Meeting Professionals International selected the Saint Charles Convention Center, managed by Global Spectrum, as its Silver Spoon Award recipient for 2006. The award is presented annually to the meeting venue that has delivered the most outstanding event experience. The Board selects Silver Spoon nominees based on a series of qualifications including excellence in hosting and providing superior service for an event. Nominated venues were presented to SLAMPI members and the recipient of the award was decided by a membership vote.

SLAMPI’s annual educational conference, EduCon, hosted by the St. Charles Convention Center in November 2005, yielded a record number of attendees and high satisfaction levels from participating planners and suppliers. Past recipients include the Renaissance Grand in 2004 and Top of the Met in 2005. The award was presented to the Center at the 2006 Installation Dinner on Thursday, June 1, 2006.

Manager of Corporate Sales, Bill Nicely, accepted the award on behalf of Global

Spectrum. Bill Nicely, Susan Sarakas, Director of Sales, and Shura Lindgren, General Manager, are all members of the St. Louis Chapter of Meeting Professionals International.

“We are honored to accept this award, considering our presence in the St. Charles and St. Louis community is so new,” said Shura. “The facility speaks for itself in warmth and beauty, and for our staff to be recognized for hosting the EduCon conference with such professionalism is simply outstanding. We appreciate the recognition and continue to work to make each client’s experience the best it can be. With so many events coming through our facility, we are excited that Meeting Planners International has taken notice of our hard work to go the extra mile and deliver great service to our clients.”

The St. Charles Convention Center, which opened in April 2005, projected to have 112 events in the first year. They exceeded their expectations by hosting over 275 events through December of 2005.

The 32 teams that played in this year’s HSMAI/SLAMPI golf tournament at Far Oaks Golf Course on May 22, 2006 enjoyed sunshine, a blue sky, and 18 holes of great golf. This annual tournament serves as a fundraising event for both organizations. The hard work of a 20-person committee made up of industry professionals from both HSMAI and SLAMPI were successful in raising more than $13,000 in profit. These funds will assist in maintaining the operations and charitable giving done by HSMAI & SLAMPI for another fiscal year!

This year we celebrated a record number of teams, sponsorships and auction items. And, of course, our good fortune would have not been possible without our teams and sponsors.

We congratulate the top three teams in the tournament:

Blue Owl Celebrates 21 Years

The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery will be celebrating its 21st Anniversary this August! To mark this special occasion, it was featured on the Food Network on August 8th, 2006. “Road Tasted” is the new show featuring Bobby and Jamie Deen, the sons of Paula Deen. The brothers appeared at the Blue Owl on May 19th and filmed for 5 hours. Mary Hostetter, the owner of Blue Owl, taught the boys how to make the Levee High Apple Pie with Caramel Pecan topping. It was a delectable success!
