In a significant development, HP Village Management has officially finalized its acquisition of Kansas City’s iconic Country Club Plaza, as announced on Monday morning during a press conference. Previously owned by a partnership between Macerich and Taubman Centers since 2016, the terms of HP Village’s purchase remain undisclosed.

Ray W. Washburne, president of HP Village Management, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled to be the new stewards of this beloved destination of Kansas City and restoring the jewel of the Midwest.” He emphasized the purchase as a legacy investment for his family, alongside several prominent local and regional families dedicated to restoring the Plaza’s national historical significance.

Washburne added, “We have enjoyed meeting and hearing from Kansas Citians who are equally passionate about restoring this treasured community asset.”

Community feedback, gathered last week by KSHB 41, highlighted a desire for new amenities, pedestrian-friendly features, and enhanced safety and security. Addressing these concerns, Washburne assured that the safety, security, and enjoyment of Plaza visitors are top priorities. Immediate plans include bolstering security and revamping the Plaza’s retail and restaurant offerings to create a more vibrant and engaging environment.

Stephen Summers has been appointed to lead leasing efforts at the Plaza, with a vision to introduce unique, chef-driven food and beverage destinations alongside high-end fashion retail. Summers affirmed, “Country Club Plaza is a historic and world-class asset deserving of the best brands in the world. We look forward to bringing them to Kansas City and partnering with top culinary talents to elevate the food and beverage scene.”

HP Village’s plans promise to rejuvenate the Country Club Plaza, aiming to enhance its status as a premier destination for both locals and visitors for generations to come.
