Le Méridien St. Louis Downtown reopened Tuesday following a 21-month closure for renovations triggered by a burst sprinkler pipe, restoring a National Register of Historic Places property to the city’s hotel inventory and adding a new restaurant option for meeting planners.

The 96-room hotel at 1019 Pine St. closed in January 2024 after water damage affected its lobby and lower levels. Iowa-based Hawkeye Hotels, which bought the 1913 building for $4.2 million in 2016 and relaunched it as a Le Méridien in 2022, completed the work after multiple delays.

General Manager Todd Curry told the St. Louis Business Journal in June that major renovations were finished, with remaining efforts focused on decorative finishes and final details. City records show six building permits totaling about $1.8 million issued for the property since November 2025. Exact renovation costs have not been disclosed.

The hotel will debut Pine Street Social Kitchen & Wine Bar later this month, replacing Prime 55 Restaurant and Lounge, which closed when the property shut down. The reopening timeline shifted several times, from an original target of the first quarter of 2025 to March, then August, before settling on early September.

Built as the Majestic Hotel and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the property’s return strengthens downtown St. Louis’ hospitality offerings for association meetings, corporate events, and group business seeking historic character combined with modern Marriott-branded amenities.
