City Museum is kicking off the fall festivities by converting its iconic 10-story playground of architectural oddities into a month-long Halloween destination named “Fright at the Museum,” running September 30 through November 1.

The all-ages event layers seasonal décor, live performances, roaming characters, and themed beverage activations across every floor, including outdoor spaces MonstroCity and the Rooftop.

Live Performances, Themed Beverages, and Character Experiences

Key attractions include Doc Terminus’ Odditorium on the third floor, featuring sideshow acts with flaming swords and other performances; the Organist’s Awakening, with the St. Louis Theatre Organ Society playing a restored 1924 Wurlitzer built into the Enchanted Caves; and Circus Harmony’s family-friendly skeleton and witch-themed shows. Wandering Ghouls appear on select evenings and Sunday afternoons. Not-So-Spooky Storytelling sessions occupy the fourth-floor Sullivan Gallery for younger visitors.

Beverage programs anchor several spaces: Coven & Cauldron on the first floor, Vampire Bar on the third, and the Mad Scientist’s Lab, also on the third. Signature drinks include the Poison Apple, True Blood served in a blood bag, Zombie Shot in a syringe, Fall Old Fashioned, and PSL White Russian.

Takeaways for Event Professionals

For event professionals, Fright at the Museum illustrates how a distinctive permanent venue can scale seasonal activations through layered experiences, partner performances, and themed food-and-beverage concepts without disrupting core operations. The approach offers a model for multi-week, multi-generational programming that leverages existing architecture and partnerships to drive extended visitation during the fall season.
