The coronavirus (COVID-19) is impacting professionals of all types, including those who work in the medical, meeting and events, and hospitality/tourism industries.  Convention centers are especially combatting cancellations and concerns amongst attendees, one of the latest event controversies taking place in Denver, Colorado.

The American Physical Society (APS) canceled its March 2020 meeting out of concern for the coronavirus.  This event was to be the largest physics convention in the country, with roughly 10,000 attendees gathering at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver for this annual four-day gathering.  The attendees flew into Denver from all over the country and secured hotel room reservations well in advance.

News of the conference’s cancellation was released the Saturday leading up to the event, which was to begin on a Monday.  APS is actively working to issue refunds to the attendees who purchased tickets for the convention, but it may be more difficult to receive a refund for the hotel reservations.
