Omnipress recently released the 2019 State of the Conference Industry Report, discovering common trends and opinions that will continue to influence how annual association conferences are executed. The respondents who attended a conference in 2019 answered several surveys pertaining to the association’s attendance values, the method of distributing content to attendees, and the source of influence on which formats are offered.
The most important goal for association conferences in 2019 was to increase attendance. 42% of associations who participated in this survey wanted more attendees to register for their 2019 conference, and under 15% made it their primary objective to increase sponsorships, attract new audiences, expand the scope of the conference, and decrease costs.
The format in which conferences distributed schedules, agendas, and event information had a close tie. 73% of respondents preferred online/web-based material, 65% wanted to access content from a conference app, and 59% were more inclined to review printed materials.
The most determining sources of influence for these formats came from attendees/members feedback, with 52% reporting their preferences directly. 20% of the influence came from the conference’s budget, and another 11% came from board of executive input.
