CLEVELAND (July 24, 2012) — Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI) has announced that the 24th Annual Case Management Society of America (CMSA) Conference & Expo will be held at Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center (CMMCC) in downtown Cleveland, June 17 – 20, 2014. The CMSA Conference & Expo is expected to welcome more than 2,000 convention attendees to CMMCC for a four-day conference with additional pre-conference activities. CMSA is expected to utilize more than 100,000 gross square feet of exhibit space in the new Cleveland Convention Center, scheduled to open in July, 2013. The 2014 CMSA Conference & Expo is the largest healthcare association conference ever hosted in downtown Cleveland.

“The year-long recruitment process for CMSA involved a remarkable team effort from the entire community,” said Jim Bennett, senior vice president, MMPI. “CMSA officials were not only impressed with the depth and quality of healthcare excellence in this region but also by the cooperation and welcoming hand extended to CMSA from civic, community, and business leaders.”

Attendees at the 2014 CMSA Conference & Expo will fill more than 5,500 hotel rooms in downtown Cleveland with a direct economic impact expected to exceed $4 million. The CMSA Annual Conference provides attendees with educational sessions, symposia, poster presentations, and other learning opportunities, along with professional networking opportunities with thought leaders in the field of case management. The CMSA Conference and Expo is also expected to draw approximately 250 exhibiting companies.

“The economic impact of the 2014 CMSA Convention and Expo will be felt throughout the community,” said David Gilbert, president of Positively Cleveland. “With over 2,000 guests in downtown Cleveland for an entire week, our restaurants, hotels, and other amenities will be filled with guests who will be impressed with the quality and quantity of entertainment, dining, and sight-seeing options.”

Founded in 1990, CMSA has grown to be the leading non-profit association dedicated to the support and development of the profession of case management. Based in Little Rock, Arkansas, CMSA serves more than 10,500 members, 15,000 subscribers, and 75 chapters through educational forums, networking opportunities, legislative advocacy and established standards which advance the profession.

“We chose Cleveland for our 2014 Convention and Expo because of the warm welcome we received from political, business, and healthcare industry leaders,” said CMSA 2012 – 2014 President Nancy Skinner, RN-BC, CCM. “The Cleveland healthcare community has demonstrated a strong commitment to helping CMSA put on a successful event and we look forward to working with them.”

“Bringing this conference to Cleveland is a natural fit for CMSA,” said CMSA Executive Director Cheri Lattimer, RN, BSN. “The facility being developed at the Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center will be one of the premier conference venues in the United States; the development occurring downtown will mean our attendees have fantastic options for lodging and dining, and the city’s reputation as a leading center for the healthcare industry means our attendees will have access to fantastic networking, educational and awareness opportunities.”

Case managers are healthcare professionals who help patients understand their current health status. Through assessments, planning, facilitation and care coordination, case managers can advocate for options and services to meet an individual’s and family’s comprehensive health needs, using available resources to promote quality cost effective outcomes. In this way, care managers are catalysts who guide patients and provide cohesion to other professionals in the healthcare delivery team, enabling their clients to achieve goals more efficiently and effectively.

CMSA is the leading membership association providing professional collaboration across the healthcare continuum to advocate for patient well-being and improved health outcomes by fostering case management growth and development, impacting healthcare policy, and providing evidence-based tools and resources.

The 22nd Annual CMSA Conference & Expo was held in June 2012 at San Francisco’s Moscone West Convention Center, attracting over 2,300 participants. The 23rd Annual Conference is slated for New Orleans, June 25 – 28, 2013. The 2014 event marks the first time the CMSA conference has been held in Cleveland.
