As events started picking back up, the Great Race cars rolled back into Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The annual Great Race event is the premier old car rally, and on June 22nd, around 120 of the world’s finest antique automobiles graced the streets of downtown Cape. Hemmings Motor News, Hagerty, Coker Tire, and Reliable Carriers are the sponsors of this 8th annual race, and winners of this race receive $50,000 of the $158,750 total prize!

This is an awesome opportunity to showcase Cape Girardeau and allow the south-eastern community to extend its hospitality to car enthusiasts across the globe. Teams that compete in the race come from Japan, England, Australia, Canada, and every part of the United States. The economic impact from the racers and their teams in turn has a positive effect on a lot of businesses in the city.

The atmosphere was filled with music and food in Cape’s historic downtown where, after a 275-mile drive, a walk along the riverfront and viewing of the historic murals offered much needed relaxation! Cape Girardeau is now able to boast that it was apart of the race where Olivia and Genna Gentry made history as the first female team to win the Great Race! Cape Girardeau looks forward to welcoming back the Great Race in the future.
