The Cape Girardeau Riverfront Fall Festival Committee has been working diligently this week on the finishing touches for its Inaugural Riverfront Fall Festival.  The Riverfront Fall Festival will take place on the Kellerman Foundation Parking Lot, Water Street, Themis Street, and Riverfront Park along the flood wall on Saturday, October 22.

There are exciting things going on this week leading up to the big day:

    • Limited Edition Hand Thrown Steins by Riverside Pottery are available for pre-purchase only at the Visit Cape offices. You also receive a limited edition signed event poster and one drink coupon for the event. The total package is $45. Visit Cape is located at 220 N. Fountain Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau.
    • The Downtown Scarecrow Contest for local businesses kicks off this week – make sure to stop in to your favorite downtown businesses and check out their scarecrows!
    • Pumpkin Carving Contest with the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is on Wednesday, Oct 19, 2022 and we hope to have the pumpkins available for viewing on Saturday.

The Riverfront Fall Festival features a collection of artisan vendors from around the Southeast Missouri area. We have artists, woodworkers, crafters, knitters, crochet, food vendors, snacks, and other handmade items. Kids’ activities include a balloon animal artist, face painting, spooky science, and lots more! The complete festival schedule can be found on Visit Cape’s website or Facebook event page.

Kicking off the festival is Yoga East, and some riverfront yoga at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 22. First come, first namaste. Yoga will be right in front of the mural along the riverfront.

Meanwhile, Gourdon the Pumpkin is anxiously awaiting the opening ceremony where he will be freed from fall festival responsibilities by Cape Girardeau’s Mayor, Stacy Kinder, and Town Crier, Whitney Quick, as he makes his debut as the Pardoned Pumpkin on October 22.

The food court and Main Stage area located on the Kellerman Foundation parking lot will offer outdoor seating and additional food and local beverages to complement the restaurants in Downtown Cape.

The Riverfront Fall Festival music lineup has something for everyone! Steve Shafner & the Jumper Cables, Maggie Thorn, Jason Heeter Band, Logan Chapman, and the Ivas John Band will perform.

The festival will culminate with a “fireside” storytelling performance produced by Christy Mershon and her Emporium Esoterica.
