St. Louis-based Lodging Hospitality Management (LHM) has announced more major plans for its redevelopment of St. Louis Union Station. The year 2018 will see the opening of the St. Louis
Aquarium, located on the south side of historic Union Station. Construction of the aquarium is expected to begin this fall, and should take about two years.
The $45 million attraction will total about 75,000 square feet of space, and feature exhibits and tanks with 1 million gallons of water for thousands of aquatic animals, including sharks. It will be open year round, and is expected to attract about 1 million annual visitors.
The aquarium is part of LHM’s $70 million Union Station entertainment complex plan, which also will include a 200-foot ferris wheel, lake boardwalk, train park, new hotel and meeting space, and more.
The St. Louis Aquarium will be an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It will feature 8,500 square feet of private event space, ideal for gatherings and parties of all kinds.
